Morbid Status and Its Relating Factors Among Employees of a Hospital

Abstract
In order to estimate the morbid status and its relating factors, body measurements, laboratory, roentgenic studies and questionnaire survey were performed for 262 male and 376 female employees in a general hospital in June.1994. We used the criteria of our own to define ¢¥normal or abnormal¢¥ and did stepwise logistic regression analysis to investigate relating factors.
The results obtained were as follows.
1. Increased serum total cholesterol was 23.0% and obesity 13.5%, abnormal liver function 11.0%, decreased hemoglobin 10.2% elevated blood pressure 7.8%, increased fasting blood sugar 3.4%, renal problems 0.5%, pulmonary tuberculosis 0.3% among the total of 638 employees.
2.In male, the prevalence of increased serum total cholesterol, obesity, abnormal liver function, elevated blood pressure and fasting blood sugar were significantly higher than female, and that of decreased hemoglobin was significantly higher in female.
3.The prevalence of obesity was 26.7% in male. which had tendency to increase according to age increment but there was no statistical significance. In female, that of obesity was 4.3%, which was increased significantly as age increased.
4.By the logistic regression analysis for serum total cholesterol, significant variables were age, body mass index, diastolic blood pressure.
5.By the logistic regression analysis for blood pressure, significant variables were age, body mass index, sex and serum total cholesterol.
6.By the logistic regression analysis, significant variables were sex and body mass index for liver function and only sex for decreased hemoglobin.
